The Sutherland Dianella library is packed full of interesting and exciting books for all ages. Our staff regularly update titles and series so that your children have access to the best possible range of literature.
Classes regularly provide displays of their work for our Library, so it is always filled with bright and colourful displays.
We are also home to the famous Milkshake the cow, who keeps our Librarian company in between classes!
Each class has a set library time each week, where students borrow 1-2 books (depending on their year group).
Students are permitted to borrow books for up to two consecutive weeks, giving them enough time to enjoy novels and larger reference books.
We adhere to a strict no library bag = no borrowing policy, so we ask parents to take note of their class schedule and ensure that library books and bags come to school on your child’s library day.
Lost or damaged books
Our library operates on a tight budget, so if a book is lost or returned damaged, the school will invoice the student’s parent/guardian for the cost of replacement. Please note that replacement books must be purchased through our approved suppliers, and we do not accept replacement books purchased by individuals.
Students will not be allowed to borrow library books until invoices are settled.
Sutherland Dianella believes strongly in promoting literature and reading. As part of this, we participate in the annual The Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week.
Details will follow closer to the date regarding our annual Book Week parade.
Scholastic Book Club operates through our school library. There are two campaigns per school term, and each child will bring home a brochure of available books. We rely heavily on our commission from the Book Club to furnish our Library with new books and books for student awards. Your ongoing support of the Scholastic Book Club is greatly appreciated.
If you are interested in purchasing items for a gift and would like to collect your order so that your child/ren do not see the items (birthdays, Christmas etc.) there is an option via LOOP Online ordering (details on all campaign brochures) to select GIFT ORDER. For cash orders, please simply write GIFT ORDER on the top of your order form. The Librarian will contact you when your order is ready for collection. This is a great option that many parents take up around the hectic festive season!

Once again we are hosting the Scholastic Book Fair in our library. This before and after school pop-up shop is a great opportunity for students to browse a selection of new releases and popular offerings from the past year. There is also a huge range of stationery items that always prove very popular with students!
Poster and Colouring competition
Students will have the opportunity to bring home a poster to colour in, or they are welcome to create their own Book Fair poster, all for placement around the school. There will be prizes for the best entry in each year group, plus faction tokens for all students who participate.
Can’t make it to the Book Fair?
If you can’t make it to the Library to view the Book Fair with your child/ren, there is a sample brochure linked below that offers a selection of the most popular books availabe this year. In addition to this, your child/ren will have the opportunity to complete a Wish List, which you can then choose to order from. Please note that stationery items are not available via the Wish List.
Cash and Eftpos payments are accepted, both at the fair and via Wish List order forms
Some of our most popular titles sell out early, but we complete a back-order at the end of the fair. Back-orders are usually received within 1-2 weeks, and are handed out to students in class.
