Why Choose Sutherland Dianella Primary School?

At SDPS the Early Years staff pride themselves on their ability to create a warm, welcoming and accepting classroom environment where each child is able to build their confidence and sense of self. Our highly skilled staff are trained and experienced in providing enriched opportunities for students that promote engagement and excitement through play-based learning. Our team's understanding of the Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, National Quality Standards, the Early Years Learning Framework and their experience in the Kindergarten context allows them to create a rich child-centred and driven program that fosters enquiry, exploration and a life-long love of learning.

We believe that all aspects of a child’s life have an impact on their learning. Creating a relationship between staff-child-parent is crucial to having a successful schooling experience. Parents and carers are encouraged to participate throughout the year in events and learning experiences when possible. We have an open-door policy where families are invited into the classroom, so children have the opportunity to share their learning and experiences. Similarly, parents and carers are encouraged to discuss any and all concerns so that the educators are able to have a holistic understanding of each child’s needs and abilities. Students have the opportunity to participate in incursions, excursions and whole school events throughout the year. Our Kindergarten students participate in Fundamental Movement Skills weekly, and also have access to the library, outdoor spaces and the sustainability area.

Early Years Philosophy

Early Years Learning at SDPS:

  • Provides all students with an opportunity to develop, learn and succeed in a holistic capacity.
  • Nurtures relationships between staff, students and parents to ensure a respectful, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Supports children to celebrate their individuality and cultural differences, to develop a sense of belonging and wellbeing
  • Recognises that children learn best through quality meaningful experiences which are hands on, child centred and interest based.
  • Creates a foundation for each child’s learning and development through intentional and purposeful planning, teaching and assessing.

Kindergarten Days

Students attend Kindergarten 5 days a fortnight. We have 2 groups that attend either Monday and Tuesday; or Thursday and Friday. The Wednesday alternates fortnightly, depending on which group your child attends. From the first day students attend full days. There is an option for future students to attend a Pre-Kindy in Term 4 the year before they commence Kindergarten.
