A mindset is how we think about situations which surround us in everyday life.
We either have a Fixed mindset or a Growth mindset.
When we have a fixed mindset we:
- Avoid challenges
- Give up easily
- See effort as fruitless
- Ignore useful criticism
- Are threatened by others
When we have a growth mindset we:
- Embrace challenges
- Persist in obstacles
- See effort as necessary
- Learn from criticism
- Are inspired by others’ success
(*Summary of Dweck’s Mindset)
As Educators we teach students how to develop a Growth mindset so they become resilient and resourceful learners who:
- are persistent
- are risk takers
- take responsibility for their learning
- are challenged and motivated
We use the language of ‘YET’ which teaches us that we may not be able to accomplish something right away (‘YET’), however through practice and perseverance we will learn it!
